Canada Excellence Research Chair in
Genetics of Cardiovascular Disease
The world-class Cardiovascular Genetics Centre, established at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, serves as a core DNA genotyping and sequencing centre for an international consortium of academic institutions in North America. The Chair in Genetics of Cardiovascular Disease would be a renowned geneticist with expertise in molecular medicine and epidemiology. They would direct a program to identify new genetic variants contributing to cardiovascular disease. The ultimate goal would be to determine gene function, which would provide the opportunity to develop new therapies and assess how useful genetic screening would be for cardiovascular risk in a specific group in the greater Champlain region.
Canada Excellence Research Chair in
Nanophotonics
This proposal would establish a Chair in Nanophotonics, a field in which the University of Ottawa has built a team of outstanding scientists, excellent partnerships and world-class facilities, all working in the context of one of the world's most outstanding centres for photonics research, teaching and commercialization. The creation of this Chair would further raise the world-class stature of the photonics work at the University. This, in turn, would promote international leadership and further develop Ottawa's role as a leading North American and international photonics cluster.
