Canada Excellence Research Chair in
Nuclear Materials
There is currently a worldwide resurgence of investment in nuclear power. This investment is being driven by the need to operate existing reactors beyond originally planned lifetimes, and to provide "baseload power" (enough power for customers) with low-carbon emissions. The Chair in Nuclear Materials' research focus has four thrusts: assessing existing materials within the more severe environments expected for future, more efficient, safer reactor designs; developing improved materials for new reactor designs; understanding the behavior of materials within a reactor environment; and developing a physical understanding of the mechanisms and processes particular to a reactor environment.
