Université de Sherbrooke Proposal

Canada Excellence Research Chair in Solid-State Quantum Information Processing
Quantum information science is a new field of research that has the potential to revolutionize information communication technologies by using quantum mechanical effects. Quantum computers are enormously more powerful than conventional computers, and quantum communication networks offer possibilities unmatched by current technologies, such as unconditionally secure private communication. Through the Canada Excellence Research Chairs program, and with the Université de Sherbrooke's recognized excellence and collaboration history in the three areas necessary to achieve this goal, the University will attract to Canada a world expert to study the solid-state devices, like quantum dots and superconducting electrical circuits, that are most likely to achieve these new technologies.
