Dr. Robert K. Cowen is the Robert E. Maytag Chair in Ichthyology and professor at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
Cowen’s research focuses on the ecology and life history of fish, particularly their early life history, and specific aspects of the ecology of larval fish, including vertical migration, growth, survival, and feeding. He has also researched the reproductive and population biology of hermaphroditic fish and kelp bed systems. Most recently, he has been studying juvenile habitats in the recruitment of fish, population connectivity in marine fish, and the early life history dynamics of billfish.
Cowen holds a PhD in biological oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California in San Diego (UC San Diego).
