Tom Kierans is one of Canada’s most respected business leaders. He has served as chair of the Canadian Journalism Foundation, chair of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and president and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute. Kierans has held senior positions in the financial sector, including at McLeod Young Weir Ltd. (now ScotiaMcLeod Inc.), where he was president for 10 years.
His expertise on financial, governance and public policy matters is regularly sought by governments and private sector companies. Kierans holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BA from McGill University. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2000.
Currently, Kierans is vice-president and chair of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s governing council.
