Canada Excellence Research Chair in Particle Astrophysics

The mysterious dark matter that pervades the universe but has never been directly detected; the structure and evolution of the universe; the mechanisms of fusion in the sun; the cataclysmic explosions of supernovas—these are just a few of the areas that the Chair in Particle Astrophysics will examine. Resources such as the SNOLAB international facility for particle astrophysics—the world’s premier underground facility, which attracts scientists world-wide—will help the Chair in performing fundamental research into the nature of subatomic particles and the astronomical sources that produce them. The Chair’s research will benefit Canadians through its economic impact, by creating training opportunities for highly skilled workers, and by leading to the development of frontier technologies.
