University of Saskatchewan Proposal

Canada Excellence Research Chair in Food Systems and Security

The world’s population is growing faster than global food production capacity. We need new ways to produce more food with fewer resources, to ensure that this food is safer and healthier, and to deliver it efficiently to those who need it. This urgent challenge requires innovation and co-ordination across the food system—from farm to fork. At the University of Saskatchewan, Canada’s oldest agricultural university and a world leader in food research, the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Food Systems and Security will lead a new global institute to meet the challenge and seek real solutions. Under the Chair’s guidance, the institute will address the need for more efficient use of natural resources, enhanced food production and safety, and better nutrition for a hungry world.
